Friends of Ackerman Woods,
At Tuesday night's Glen Ellyn Park District Meeting, President Bill
Taylor started the public comments with a statement that the board had
already decided the project is the best course of action, and that they
would not change their course based on our input. This was before
hearing a single word from those who had come to express their concern.
We repeatedly requested that the board hold a meeting, with proper
public notice, to discuss this plan due to the fact that critical
pieces of information that were withheld from the public - and some
board members - when the intergovernmental agreement was signed. Mr.
Taylor and the other board members again refused to hold a meeting to
allow their constituents to have their say.
Despite the board's inaction, we had a great night. With over 125 people packed into the stuffy board room and passionate speeches, we made an impact. WFLD-TV FOX covered the meeting and aired us at the beginning of their 9:00 newscast, you can view it here. WBBM-AM 780 broadcast an interview with Melissa Creech this morning about the meeting, and requests for interviews are pouring in from media who have learned of our cause.
This is by no means over!
